I remember I had a thing called a "Puggle" when I was young. Now I've found your site on the Internet. Are your Puggles the same thing?

Yes! Our Puggles are the genuine article.

Puggles have been around for a long time... Although they have evolved (that is, been improved) slightly over the years, the Puggles we sell are the same as those from decades ago. If you remember a Puggle from times past, it would have been designed by Tony Barber and is now made exclusively by us.

We sell a range of Puggles of different sizes (medium, giant etc), ages (baby, adult etc), and species (mutant, polar etc)! Click here to learn more.

What happened to the other Lost Forest stores? Will they ever reopen?

All of The Lost Forests shops, except for the Adelaide store, were closed due to a complex set of legal problems involving The Lost Forests franchise and its parent company, The Lost Forests Pty Ltd, which was liquidated between 1993 and 1997. The Adelaide Lost Forest store, although it was originally a part of this franchise, was not just another store in the chain because it was fully owned by the store's managers, whereas the other stores were owned fully, or mostly, by The Lost Forests Pty Ltd, and run by staff not owner-operators. When the problems began for The Lost Forests Pty Ltd, the Adelaide store was not involved, and when the winding up of the company began, our store was not made to close along with the rest. However other problems faced us, such as the fact that we could no longer obtain stock from the now-defunct manufacturing arm of The Lost Forests Pty Ltd!

So unfortunately for our many visitors who would like to see a Lost Forest store in their home town again, this will probably never be.

You never know though - stranger things have happened!

I keep hearing that baby echidnas are called "puggles". Is this true?

No. An echnidna is an Australian native marsupial, one of the two species of egg-laying mammals known as monotremes (the other is the platypus). Baby echnidnas are not called "puggles". The misunderstanding began when a Kangaroo Island biologist recently referred to baby echnidnas as "puggles" because their appearance is similar to that of the toy Puggles sold by The Lost Forests. Unfortunately the misnomer stuck and has been spreading ever since; it has even been taught to children in schools. The woman who initially wrongly applied the term to echidnas has since acknowledged Tony Barber's ownership of the Puggle name in a documentary screened on ABC TV. It is incorrect to refer to baby echidnas as "puggles", and although The Lost Forests dosen't mind the term being used in this way, in the interest of correctness the name should not be applied to those animals since the name is wrong. Puggles are soft toys manufactured by The Lost Forests and originally designed by Tony Barber - baby echidnas are baby echidnas and, as far as we know, have no other special name!

Is ordering from The Lost Forests safe?

Yes, if you order using our Secure Server. If you click the Secure Check Out button while shopping at our site, you will be transferred to a secure area to finalise your order. This means that any information you send us will be protected by encryption between your Internet browser and our secure server. The way your browser indicates that the page you are viewing is protected by encryption depends upon which browser you are using:

Microsoft Internet Explorer users will see a small padlock appear in the status bar at the bottom of the window.

Netscape Navigator users will notice that the key which appears in the bottom left corner of the window will be solid, without the "break" that usually runs through it, on a blue background, and that a blue line will appear across the top of the browser's window.

Other Internet browsers may indicate the security of the connection in other ways - please consult the documentation accompanying your browser or use the help feature of your software to learn whether your browser supports SSL (secure socket layer) transmissions and, if so, how it indicates secure connections to you as a user

You may view a page in secure mode to see for yourself how your browser responds to a secure connection.

Depending on the configuration of your browser, you may also see a message appear as you go to Check Out informing you that you are entering a secure area. You can be assured that all the information you provide is transmitted securely. You can also be confident that your credit card information will be transmitted safely through the Internet by this means.

If your browser does not support SSL (almost all newer Internet browsers do), you have several options. First, you can upgrade to a newer browser which does support SSL. We recommend Internet Explorer, which you can download for free from Microsoft. Second, if you do not wish to upgrade your browser, you can order from us by other means, such as by telephone or fax. Third, you can order without using a secure connection. We do not recommend this, however the decision is yours and we have provided a way for you to order bypassing our secure server - just click the Check Out button rather than the Secure Check Out button when you have finished choosing items.

Only those areas of our site that involve the transmission of sensitive information are protected by the secure server. This is because the encryption process slows the transmission of data to you. That is why only the Check Out section of our online shop is encrypted (that is, when you need to enter your personal details and your payment information), rather than the entire shop - browsing through and selecting items would not involve a security risk even if the transmission between your computer and ours was intercepted.

If you would like to learn more about these security features, please consult your browser's help files or the many resources available on the Internet dealing with browser security.

How much will I be charged for postage?

The postage charge is determined by Australia Post and will be added to the total amount of your order. Postage varies according to the weight of your parcel and its destination. For overseas orders, Australia Post offers air mail (fastest delivery but most expensive), economy air (a compromise between speed and cost), and sea mail (slowest and cheapest), from which you must choose when placing your order. We recommend economy air delivery in most cases. If you would like an idea of how much postage will cost, select your country from the list (or type your postcode if you live in Australia), enter a weight in kilograms, and then click Calculate. The postage charge will be calculated and returned direct from the Australia Post web site*. Please note that we confirm the postage charge for all orders by e-mail before despatch.

*Please be aware that the postage charges you will see are Australian Dollar amounts. You may convert Australian dollars to your own currency by typing the amount to convert here: , your own currency code here: , and then clicking here: .

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

It depends, mainly on the sort of postage (air, econ air, sea mail) you choose. Please visit Australia Post for more information. Please be aware that delivery may take longer at certain times of the year, such as at Christmas or other holiday times, so please allow extra time if you are buying at these times.
